Inbox/Outbox: October 7, 2016

The weather finally, finally broke this week (in Virginia, we have one specific week where it goes from 80 degrees to 65 overnight), which means sweaters, hot chocolate, and reading on my porch. Let’s do it:

Inbox (Books Acquired)

a-separationA Separation by Katie Kitamura (Riverhead, February 7, 2017)– A woman separates from her cheating husband, then has to go searching for him when he goes missing in Greece. I love a novel about the secrets we keep from the ones we love and about weird, messed up marriages, so I’m pretty here for this.

Christmas Days: 12 Stories and 12 Feasts for 12 Days by Jeanette Winterson (Grove, December 6)– Look, it’s a collection of Christmas short stories and recipes from Jeanette Winterson. What more do you want from me?

Outbox (Books Finished)

intimations-storiesIntimations by Alexandra Kleeman–A weird and unsettling collection of short stories, ranging from a dancing master trying to tame a feral child to a woman in a sexy nurse costume who can’t figure out if she’s trapped in a killer’s game or has accidentally stumbled into a murder mystery theater. Toss in several episodes of mothers being uncomfortable with their babies, and you’ve got an absurdist/feminist work of art (not sarcasm).

In the Queue (What I’m Reading Next)

Iron CastIron Cast by Destiny Soria (Amulet Books, October 11)— I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of how awesome that cover is. Historical fiction about best friends with powers that help them create art and who then get into trouble with the law, yes please.

The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen, because I am very stupid– I live in an apartment by myself so of course I should read this very anatomically detailed murder mystery about a killer who breaks into women’s houses and duct tapes them to their beds and cuts out their uterus while they’re still alive, that’s totally wise and smart. Also, I’m halfway through it and started it yesterday. Also also, my lights haven’t been turned off in 24 hours. All my lights. Anyone have a scary dog I can borrow?

That’s it for me! What was your week in reading like?
