In Inbox/Outbox, we document the rhythm of readers’ lives by sharing comics we acquired, the comics we finished, and the next comics we plan to read each week.
Inbox (Comics Acquired)
Fantasy Sports 2: The Bandit of Barbel Bay – Sam Bosma (Nobrow)
I read the first volume in this series and enjoyed the worldbuilding and characters, though I lamented it was so short and hoped for a sequel—and now here it is! If you haven’t read the adorable first graphic novel in this series, grab it immediately so you can be excited for this upcoming volume with me!
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 3: Squirrel You Really Got Me Now by Ryan North and Erica Henderson
I’m not reading much in superhero comics these days, but I couldn’t resist picking up the third trade of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl when I was at my comics shop. This series is fun, irreverent, smart, and I really think everyone should be reading it.
Outbox (Comics Finished)
Mary Anne Saves the Day – Anne M. Martin and Raina Telgemeier (Graphix)
I’ve been saving the full-color reissues of the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels for days when I need real comfort reads, and after the tragic events in Orlando on Sunday, you can bet I was ready to settle down with this.
Bakuman, Vol. 6 – Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (VIZ Media)
I’m slowly making my way through this 20-volume series about manga creation, and I’m a little surprised at how interesting I’m finding it. The creators do an excellent job keeping the story moving forward while also providing realistic setbacks to the main characters. There are many aspects of this series I find frustrating, but I really do enjoy it.
In the Queue (What I’m Reading Next)
Han Solo written by Marjorie Liu? Yes, I’ll check this out FOR SURE.
