News is circulating that the role of Light Yagami, the main protagonist of Death Note, is possibly going to Nat Wolff, who is about to get super duper famous for being in Paper Towns. I’m sure Wolff is a fine actor, but frankly this news is distressing on the grounds that Light is Japanese. Actually, all of the characters of Death Note are Japanese. So I’ve decided to dream cast the main roles so they actually, you know, reflect the actual backgrounds of their characters.
Before that, though, a quick synopsis. Death Note refers to a notebook (called the Death Note) that gives its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they recognize. A death god (called Ryuk) drops it one day to see what happens, and Light Yagami picks it up. He’s a genius, and he’s got looooots of names he wants to put down in what he believes to be his crusade against evil. Soon, he becomes known as Kira (as in, sounds like “killer”), and makes an archenemy in L, who is a brilliant detective – the best in the business. It’s gripping, it’s clever, it’s dark and tense. And it’s getting an American film adaptation.
And now, without further ado, my dream casting:
As an end note, I should add that the manga is awesome, and so is the animated TV adaptation, which has a baller soundtrack. I have high hopes for any music being written for the new movie. Preview below of one of Kira’s themes.https://youtu.be/Z_CXJLPw2s8
