Off-Panel: Amandla Stenberg, Badass Lady, Writes Badass Comic

This post originally appeared on Panels, which is now Book Riot Comics

Our daily round-up of news around the comics space, from the gutters and beyond.

“Netflix’s Marvel series Luke Cage has rounded out its core cast. I’ve learned that Simone Missick has landed the younger female lead opposite Mike Colter, Alfre Woodard and Theo Rossi in the third series in Marvel’s four-series package for Netflix.”

They cast Misty Knight!! THEY CAST MISTY KNIGHT!!!

“One movie genre doesn’t dominate the box office forever and ever. So says Steven Spielberg, who assures the AP that one day our current glut of comic-book movies will pass into history.”

Agree on superhero movies. Disagree on comic-book movies in general.

“Amandla Stenberg says we need more badass girls — and she’s helping to make that happen. The 16-year-old actress, who is widely-recognized for her activism around social and cultural issues — is, yet again, speaking up and speaking out for women of color who often go under- and misrepresented. This time, Stenberg is using her talent to create an exciting new comic centered around the experiences of a young black warrior woman named Niobe Ayutami.”

I wish I was half as badass as Stenberg. This is awesome.
