The library in Charleston managed by Cynthia Graham Hurd before she was killed in last week’s Emanuel AME church shootings is being renamed in her honour.

A great honor to her legacy.

Summer offers, as in so many stories, first love. But the forest fires are spreading across the dry land, and the innocence of teenage wonder is undermined by the intimation of death and sexual betrayal …

The intro to this list of the top 10 summers in fiction isn’t holding back. An interesting list.

Valley Metro and the Roanoke Public Libraries are teaming up to launch the new “Books on Buses” program, to promote reading to young children in the City of Roanoke.

Three bus routes have been chosen to start the program which began on Monday, June 22. Parents with children will be invited to select a reading bag located at the front of the bus. Each reading bag will contain five books, with various reading levels. Parents will be encouraged to take a book home with them or return it to the reading bag to the rack as they exit the bus.

A smart initiative to promote reading on city buses. Good work, Roanoke.
