Our daily round-up of news around the comics space, from the gutters and beyond.
“We at The Mary Sue were none too happy when we heard about the all-male “Women in Comics” panel at this year’s Denver Comic Con. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones. Gabrial Canada sees how underrepresented women are in all aspects of geek culture and decided to respond to that Denver Comic Con panel by creating this “Men in Comics” panel featuring all women at this month’s Indy PopCon in Indianapolis.”
If you’re planning on going to Indy PopCon, stop by this panel; it’s got Panelteers Bri and Katie on it!
“At the end of May, it was revealed that DC Comics would be putting Twix ads on story pages in all of their June comics, which earned the ire of the comics community and created the hashtag of a lifetime, #TwixGate.”
I’ve read said print comics and have found the ads disruptive. Anyone else?
“Deadline has learned definitively what role Chiwetel Ejiofor will play when he suits up for Doctor Strange, the Scott Derrickson-directed Marvel Studiosfilm that will star Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character. Ejiofor, rumored to be joining the film, will play Baron Mordo, an enemy of Doctor Strange who first appeared in the comic Strange Tales in 1963.”
I like this casting, but I hope it’s not a case where the only non-white person in the film is a bad guy.
