Bookish Bling: A WIND IN THE WILLOWS Ring

Theo Fennell, a gifted jeweler known for his elaborate one-of-a-kind pieces, went bookish in his inspiration for his recent creation, the “Mole & Toad” ring. Part of Fennell’s Masterwork collection, this ring is both breathtakingly beautiful and squeal-worthily adorable (a tricky combination).

The ring shows beloved Wind in the Willows characters Mole and Toad having a conversation on top of a golden bridge. The two tiny figures are protected by a dome of rock crystal surrounded by diamonds. The majority of the setting is detailed to resemble the teeny golden bricks of the bridge, which is adorned by what I first thought was a climbing vine but what I’m now thinking must be the branches of a willow tree.

The sides of the ring feature two hinged silver gates which open to reveal a gleaming lake with golden cattails. The best part? The rock crystal dome flips open so that you can get a closer look at the itty bitty conversation going on inside.

Please note the humble Mole’s casual suit and the illustrious Toad’s gleaming jacket. This close up, you can see the etchings of each leaf in the willow branches. The attention to detail in this piece blows my mind.

This ring is price on request, so I’m assuming it’s going to have to be an “in case of large lottery jackpot” aspiration rather than a realistic purchase for most of us, but it’s glorious to behold. Do I have any Wind in the Willows fans out there who can identify this particular moment?

Thanks to The Jewellery Editor and Theo Fennell for these gorgeous images.
