I’d like to ask you a personal question. I mean, we’ve known each other for awhile now, and I think our relationship can handle it. It won’t be easy to answer, and you’ll probably kinda hate me for asking it. But my curiosity can no longer be contained. Everyone who reads a lot dreads this question even as they relish it (and by this point, you know exactly what question I am going to ask):

What is your favorite novel?

That’s right; I went there. I’m not going to define favorite for you—that’s your own personal purgatory. Genre, era, quality: it’s up to you to decide what “favorite” means for you. But, dang it, I want to know. In fact, what I really want to do is come up with a Book Riot Top 50 Novels list, generated completely by readers of the site.

So here’s what you should do.

1. Come up with your three favorite novels. (See, I left you off the hook a little. I feel your pain).

2. Fill out the form below, telling us what they are. There is no ranking here, so just list them. Also, listing the same novel three times won’t give it three votes, but nice try.

3. We’ll keep the voting open for the next week, and then we’ll tally the votes and report back. I know you are just as curious as I am to see the results.

Alright, start staring at your shelves and then give us your results below. (It’s a sweet torture, isn’t it?)

Update 10/23: The survey is now closed. Thanks to all who replied!
