Name That Author!: September 20th, 2012

Welcome to Name That Author!, a literary trivia game. We start by giving you a requirement, and you name authors who fit that requirement. When there's a prize at stake, randomly selected participants who submit correct answers win.

You can submit your guess using the form below after any clue, but if you’re wrong, you’re out for the week. So you’ve got to pick your spot. Too early and you might be wrong; wait until you’re sure, and you might get scooped.

**Be warned: if you Tweet your guess or leave a comment with your guess, you’re not only disqualified for this week, but for the rest of the month.**

Here we go:

1. I once ran for the governorship of California.

2. I used the money from my best-selling work to fund a utopian commune (in New Jersey).

3. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I was active with ACLU (and latter with experiments in the occult).

4. I spent six-months undercover in Chicago to research my most famous novel.

5.  Jack London called my most famous work, “The UNCLE TOM’S CABIN of wage-slavery”
